![]() ![]() 2.5" drives with glass platters can be effectively be destroyed with a BB gun!.380, 22, etc., any "weaker" loads.just don't even try, unless you are doing 2.5" drives that have a MUCH thinner lid.45MM is significantly more powerful, and more likely to penetrate, thus less likely to ricochet.Frangible ammo might be a good option, but I've never tried it (expensive!). Choose hollow points instead, as they are designed to expand and thus expel more energy on impact. FMJ is more likely to ricochet, so don't use it.I could hear the ricochet, and I'm not really sure where it went. I didn't realize it was happening until I stopped to reload, took off my hearing protection, and (DOH!) forgot to put hearing protection back on. I can tell you, from experience, that a 9MM FMJ (full metal jacket for the uninformed) will ricochet off an enterprise level 3.5" hard drive. Just a warning for those who are ready to go out with a handgun for some secure data destruction.Choose your caliber and ammo carefully. ![]()
